I'm sure it gets frustrating when you're browsing through Twitch, and you've finally come across someone you really want to subscribe to, but it just doesn't let you subscribe.

I've been following a couple of streamers playing the new game Halo Infinite, and knowing that a friend of mine had recently gotten into streaming, I thought I'd be that good friend and subscribe to his channel.

Even though I tried clicking on the Subscribe button, the subscription wasn't going through, and I didn't know what to do about it, so I decided to dig a little deeper and research the issue.

Even though Prime Gaming (formerly Twitch Prime) advertises prime subs and actively promotes users to subscribe to their favorite channel, it's not as straightforward as it seems.

Ensure that you are active and have the correct subscription to an Amazon Prime or Prime Gaming account and if required, try restarting your browsing device and router as there might be a network issue causing the problem.

I've also figured out a couple of other fixes for this, so read on to find out more.

Confirm That Your Account Isn't an Amazon Household Invitee

There are many ways to access a prime membership account. Sometimes a household member might have a Prime membership, and all family members might be linked to that account.

In this case, not all the benefits of the prime membership holder pass on to the remaining family members.

Make sure that you have an Amazon or Twitch Prime account of your own, as an Amazon Household Invitee will not have access to Twitch.

Confirm That Your Prime Student Membership Hasn't Expired

In case you use a Prime Student Membership, there are a couple of things that you can check out to make sure your account hasn't expired.

Since student memberships require proof that you are a student at a school/university, memberships usually expire at the end of your final year. This means you will have no option but to upgrade to the standard plan.

Ensure that you have verified your .edu mail ID as Amazon will send a verification email to confirm your eligibility as a student.

This is only if your .edu mail id does not appear on Amazon's database.

Also, make sure the student membership has not elapsed for 4 years, as this is the maximum time period allowed for student discounts.

Please note that Prime Student Memberships offer a single free 30-day channel subscription.

Confirm Your Payment Status

You've set up an auto-debit feature, it's been working all this time, and suddenly you can't access your account because your subscription isn't renewed.

Firstly, ensure that the bank account you have linked for the auto-debit is sufficiently funded.

It is easy to forget, especially if you use multiple accounts for various transactions.

If you have linked your credit card for payments, make sure that your bank has not blocked your card or transaction.

This can happen for recurring payments as bank systems might flag the transaction.

Sometimes there might be network issues between the banks, and this can cause transactions to fail or get declined.

Wait it out for a while and try again, or you can try making the payment from another account.

Once the payment is made, confirm that your account is now a paid subscription.

Restart Your Router

The problem might actually be in your own house.

Most of us leave our routers on all the time. We use Wi-Fi throughout the house, and nowadays, most of us have smart devices that rely on constant network connections.

But sometimes, having the router on all the time can cause issues. It's similar to using a water filter.

The longer it gets used continuously, the more sediments and dirt form, making it harder for water to get filtered.

So, similarly, our router also gets clogged over time, and the easiest way to clean it up is just to restart the device.

This will help clean up any connection issues or login issues you might have been facing while using your Amazon or Prime Gaming account.

Restart Your Browsing Device

Just like your router, a lot of temporary data (cache and cookies) can get logged and stored on the device that you are using for Prime Gaming.

This means that sometimes the cache that is already on your system might be conflicting with the cache that is being transmitted to you from Twitch.

In these instances, simply shut down your system (Phone or PC), unplug the mains (PC), and then hold down the power button for about 30 seconds (PC).

This will allow your system to drain any residual power and also remove any cache or cookies that might have been left behind on the storage.

Now simply reboot the system after 10 minutes, and everything should work as it should now.

Log Back into Twitch

Logging out and back into your account is also a good way to fix the problem.

Sometimes there might have been changes on the server and updates for the website that may not have reflected on your account.

This can lead to errors as your account does not reflect the changes on the website or server.

Once you log out and log in again, these changes should immediately.

If this occurs again in the future, just remember to re-login to your account.

Clear Your Cache and Cookies

You can delete cache and cookies for your router or PC using the earlier steps, but what if you need to manually clear temp data.

This is required at times because not all temp data is deleted during a reboot. Some data will sit in the temp storage until it gets overwritten by other data.

But this usually takes a very variable amount of time.

To clear any additional temp data manually.

  • Press' Windows key + R' on any screen from your PC.
  • Type is "%temp%" without the quotes.
  • Select all the files in this folder with 'Ctrl + A' and hit 'Shift + Del'.

Some files cannot be deleted as they are system cache files. These can be ignored.

For your browser, you can simply,

  • Open 'Settings' or 'Options' on your browser.
  • Select 'Privacy' and look for 'Browsing Data'.
  • Make sure to select cookies and cache in the items you want to delete.
  • Select the time period from which you want to delete it.
  • Now click 'Delete'.

All the cookies and cache stored on your browser will be cleared.

How to Access Twitch Prime Sub Through Prime Gaming

If you are an Amazon Prime user and also have a Twitch account, you may need to link the two accounts to get the proper benefits of your Prime Gaming subscription.

Head to Amazon and sign in to your prime account.

Now look for the option 'Link Twitch Account', which will be on your left.

Login with your Twitch account, and it should redirect you to Twitch's website, but now you will be able to use your Prime Gaming benefits on your account.

You can now sub to your favorite streamers and content creators for free or use the paid subscription to support them.

Contact Support

In the unlikely event that none of the fixes worked for you, then the only option you might have is to contact Twitch Customer Support and have them resolve your issue.

You can also send them your query directly on their Twitter handle @TwitchSupport.

You may also need to get in touch with Amazon Customer Support if it turns out to be an issue with your Prime membership.

But make sure you have thoroughly gone through all the fixes before relying on customer support.

Final Thoughts on Twitch Prime Sub Not Available

In the unlikely event that you cannot sub to your favorite creators on Twitch, make sure to go through all the steps once again in case you missed out on anything.

And if your student membership has expired before the scheduled due date, make sure to get in touch with Amazon to rectify any discrepancies in your details.

Also, remember that you only get 1 free sub per month which will not auto-renew every month to support different creators every month. Additional subs per month will be charged.
